Vtg 1983 BELL MOTO 3 YELLOW MOTORCYCLE RACING HELMET 7 3/8 Motocross Star RARE
Bell has been famous for producing high quality motorcycle helmets for over 50 years. Their top of the line "Moto 3" motorcycle racing helmet of the early 1980s was arguably the best of its day, and today, any Bell Moto 3 helmet remains highly collectible. This Vintage 1983 BELL MOTO 3 YELLOW MOTORCYCLE RACING HELMET is in good condition, with moderate loosening around the face edge rim, some scattered scuffing to the decals around the lower exterior edge, a long line of hairline crazing at the exterior left jaw, some light hairline crazing at each side of the exterior jaw, some scratching, dark soiling, and surface chipping around the exterior, heavy loosening and tearing to the front and back lining, most of the padding from the ear lining having softened and nearly disappeared, a sizable chip in the front left crown padding, some chipping to the lower right back crown padding, a sizable crack in the leatherette portion of the right chinstrap, some patina to the chinstrap buckles, and with some overall age wear evident (ALL pictured).
Otherwise, the helmet is in fine shape, with no other damage to the tough fiberglass construction, which retains approximately 85% of the original glossy yellow exterior finish. Most interestingly, it's a Size 7 3/8 (59 centimeters), bears the classic "BELL" oval maker's tag at front, and carries "MOTO 3" emblazoned in black at each side of the jaw, with three trailing black "racing stripes" culminating in a "BELL / DOT / SNELL APPROVED" maker's mark at the lower back.
The helmet also shows most of a "Ricky Johnson / SUPER CROSS CHAMPION" signature decal at front, and is adorned with an additional large "BELL" oval maker's sticker at back. It features the original black rubber edge rims, black leatherette and black nylon chinstraps with a dual metal "D" ring closure buckle, black velour lining, and black styrofoam crown padding, exhibits "BELL / MOTO / STAR III / USA" stamped on the right chinstrap, along with the date, "5 83" (May 1983), and sports both of the original "Bell Helmets" maker's labels inside.
